I prefer the Type K thermometer to a point and shoot laser thermometer.
In spite of what you may have seen on TV a laser thermometer does not measure ambient air temperature. In
fact, these devices are specifically designed to ignore ambient temperatures.
The thermometer pictured above measures air temperature with a 1 degree per second response time.

This is another device used to take baseline readings prior to an investigation and is responsive enough to
measure sudden fluctuations.
Its a bit bulky and the thermocouple wire is a little fragile but overall its still a valued addition to my kit.
